Spyderco Manix Folding Knife Review

!±8± Spyderco Manix Folding Knife Review

The Spyderco Manix Is a work knife all the way. Take a look at this knife and it becomes obvious that Spyderco spared the flash and trivial features in order to focus on making a folding knife with sheer strength, edge retention and comfortable ergonomics.

What I like about the knife:

1. At 3.75 inches, the drop point style blade is long enough to give you awesome cutting power but small enough to be legally carried almost anywhere.

2. Your fingers are protected from lock failure thanks to Spyderco's proven lock back system. The lock releases when you push down the button on the back of the handle and has no movement from side to side or up and down when in the locked position.

3. Spyderco uses the hottest steel in the knife market for the Manix blade; S30V. With this steel you get the toughness and edge retention of high carbon steel and the rust resistance of a stainless.

4. The Manix handle is well designed to fit comfortably in your hand. Additionally, the G-10 scales provide a non-slip grip that you will appreciate. Each Manix comes with an ambidextrous and reversible pocket clip to allow for left/right and tip up/tip down carry.

5. .With more and more knife companies outsourcing their production overseas, it's nice to see well made knives still being made in America. Spyderco still makes their Manix knives in Golden, Colorado.

What I didn't like:

I only wish that the Manix were available with clip or tanto style blades. Other than that I have no major complaints about the knife.

Overall:

With a suggested retail value of 9.95, the Spyderco Manix is not the cheapest knife on the market. If you're looking for a top-notch folding knife that will be your trusted companion for years to come, then check out the Spyderco Manix.

Spyderco's dramatic Manix2 is a full-service folding knife that features our improved, patented Ball Bearing Lock. The hardened ball bearing that forms the heart of this high-strength lock is encased in a polymer cage that makes ambidextrous operation and release of the lock even easier. The lock is housed in a handle constructed of stainless steel liners and G-10 handle scales that feature strategically placed texturing at the edges for an exceptional grip. The blade is hollow-ground 154CM stainless steel and features textured jimping above a super-sized 14mm Spyderco Round Hole. These details guarantee positive one-handed deployment of the blade with either hand and a secure platform for the thumb during use. A three-screw, deep-pocket clip supports left or right-hand tip-up carry and a lined lanyard hole allows the attachment of safety lanyards or thongs.

  • Full-service folding knife that provides exceptional strength and cutting performance
  • Hollow-ground 154CM stainless steel blade with a partially serrated (Combination Edge) cutting edge
  • Improved, patented Ball Bearing Lock provides extreme strength and smooth, ambidextrous operation
  • Textured black G-10 handle scales and liner edges provide a secure, comfortable grip
  • Reversible deep-pocket clip supports left or right-side tip-up carry

A day spent anodizing - dragons and claret splatter

This morning I got up nice and early so that I could get cracking on anodizing a bunch of Spyderco Manix 2 aluminum handles. I had 4 sets of dragon scales machined, tumbled, and ready to be anodized, so this video is a quick insight into that process. I also made a special set for my brother's birthday, black dragon scales with red blood splatter! I'm even nice enough to show you how I did it. Normally I'd use rubber cement, but this time I tried nail polish and it worked awesome. Enjoy! Thanks for watching!

The Manix2 has enjoyed a welcome reception since its release in early 2010.  An all-black version arrived summer of 2010 with a DLC (diamond like coated) black blade, black screws and black silhouette pocket clip. Just like the non-black version it features an exceptionally strong lock called the Ball Bearing Lock®.  The lock consists of a free-floating ball bearing contained in a custom high-tech polymer cage.  The round ball bearing allows the lock to self adjust across a large surface, smoothly and consistently locking up with solid confidence. Layered under the G-10 handle are scalloped full-steel scale liners extending just beyond the handle scales, effectively jimping the handle's perimeter while increasing rigidity and strength. The matte black non-reflective blade is Crucible 154-CM steel, hollow-ground with aggressive thumb serrations (jimping) above a super-sized 14mm Spyderco Round Hole.  A black three-screw pocket clip is left/right hand friendly and positions the folder for tip-up carry.
